Our Story

Hi there! 

If you've been with us from the beginning, you'll remember our humble beginnings as a drama review and lyrics blog under a different name (TVB is cool). When this website was created 15 years ago, there were almost zero resources for Cantonese language learners online. 

I started transliterating traditional Chinese lyrics into easy-to-sing Cantonese sounded out lyrics, because I wanted to share this wonderful language to the world. Over time, I expanded my transliterations to Hanyu Pinyin for Mandarin (cpop, tw-pop), and romanized hangul for Korean (kpop) songs, which I hope to continue on Evergreen Lyrics. I'd never learnt to read Jyutping or Yale romanization when running my old website, but have chosen to use Yale (with tonal numbers) as the romanisation style of choice here as I think it's the easiest to learn! 

Over the years, I've received so many warm comments about how my pinyin lyrics have helped your studies and enjoyment of Hong Kong and Taiwan dramas. Even though the old website was on hiatus for a number of years, the overwhelming continuous support and growing interest in Cantonese language and culture in recent years has motivated me to begin transliteration songs again.
